Why: I like the tune, and it’s been useful for life actually. I was in Girl Scouts from ages six to sixteen with friends at the Maryknoll Sisters Center run by the Catholic church. It was the most vital center for girls' development and girl leadership development.
Migration story: My grandfather and his four brothers migrated to North America by finding work as laundry men on a ship going to Mexico. They somehow made their way up to San Francisco, and found help among the Clan Associations there. Because the anti-Chinese violence was so great there, they started moving east, and they started traveling across America, ending up in Morgantown, West Virginia, then New York City, and finally opening a laundry in the North End of Boston, in the Sicilian neighborhood where they settled.
Chinatown connection: I was born in Boston Chinatown. I grew up here on Hudson St, and I taught here.
